When Gareth Bales, Real Madrid Prevail

-

Gareth Bale has been ruled out of action for up to three to four weeks according to various sources, but will he actually be missed by Real Madrid? ausinformer.com looks at the spectacular stats from Opta that suggest the Galacticos actually thrive without their £85m man.

Better without Bale overall?

The once the world breaking transfer (until Paul Pogba), Gareth Bale has been blighted by injury for Real Madrid this season. This has subsequently (and unsurprisingly) raised eyebrows as to the Welshman’s long-term worth to the Galacticos.

Patience is a virtue, but the numbers at this moment don’t make for great recuperation reading for the former Spurs and Southampton man. Overall, in all competitions, Gareth Bale’s absence is worth a 12% increase in wins for Real Madrid.

In a side loaded with star-studded talent, an absence not being felt as a greatly as other teams in Europe is perhaps not all that surprising. However, Madrid fans could be forgiven for having their patience tested with Bale, considering they score 4% more goals and concede 11% less goals with him on the bench.

With the Welshman missing in action for the next few weeks, could it be that the 27-year old’s injury could consequently help lead Madrid to a first La Liga title in five years?

12% higher win rate without Bale in the Champions League

As Real Madrid gear up for tonight’s Champions League semi-final showdown with city rivals Atletico Madrid, they can breathe easier by looking at the stats that look good for Zinedine Zidane’s side—but not so much for fans of the Welsh wizard Gareth Bale. According to the stats by Opta, and analysis by ausinformer.com, Real Madrid have a 12% increase in win rate without Bale when playing Champions League football.

Not only do they win more in the Champions League, but they also score more—8% more to be precise. Defensively they are also in better shape without the Welsh international conceding 44% fewer goals.

Although these numbers are damning for Gareth Bale in Europe, it’s still worth noting that Real Madrid have won two Champions League titles with him in the side—with Bale netting a crucial goal in the 2014 final.

Benzema and Cristiano stronger as a duo

There are many superstar combinations that can only ever be put together in computer games or on fantasy football sheets, and the sight of seeing Bale, Benzema and Cristiano Ronaldo together as a front-three is enough to scare even the meanest of defences. However, could it be that ‘BC’ is better than BBC? Well once again the numbers don’t lie, in-fact they suggest that ‘BC’ is 7% better than ‘BBC’. Bookmakers seem to have spotted this trend, as they are offering special odds on goal scorers in tonight's big matchup.

The lethal duo of Frenchman Karim Benzema and the four-time Ballon d’Or winning Cristiano Ronaldo are currently making a case for breaking up the BBC collective. Although a lot of silverware and success has been accumulated by the club since Gareth Bale arrived at the club in 2013, numbers and speculation will only continue to pile the pressure on the ‘B’ in ‘BBC’ upon his return from a fourth layoff this season.
